Dr. Janet Vafaie is one of Los Angeles best and most trusted Mohs surgeons.
Most dermatologic surgeries today are minimally invasive and require only local or regional anesthesia, for optimal patient safety and a reduced recovery period.
Excisional surgery is used to remove both benign and malignant skin growths, such as moles, skin tags, warts, cysts and some skin cancers.
It is typically performed under local anesthesia, in our office.
Most procedures take approximately 30 minutes to complete. After numbing the area and cleansing the site with a surgical disinfectant, Dr. Vafaie will painlessly remove the growth. The area is then re-constructed using sutures (stitches), which generally stay in place for 1-2 weeks.
Following the procedure, the specimen is examined under a microscope to ensure that the growth has been removed completely. Most patients can return to work and their daily activities the same day. Of course, every patient and procedure is different.
